“I primarily use astrology as a vehicle for what Jung defined as “Individuation.” Individuation is the lifelong psychological process of forming a unique, stable identity and separating your sense of self from parents, society, and group norms. It is the endeavor of knowing ourselves wholly and truly, even the parts of ourselves that we would much rather turn away from. Pursuing a path of lifelong individuation strikes me as nothing less than the psychological foundation of ethical life, a duty we have to ourselves and to our communities in order to be able to be the best version of ourselves. But the pursuit of individuation is not a path all people inherently walk. It is an active choice we make, the hero’s journey so to speak, and not everyone will choose to be the hero in their own story. This is not a judgement, but a fact, and with the acceptance of that fact, we must ask ourselves: what makes someone willing and able to undertake that journey? How do we make that possible for all people? My astrology practice is my personal effort to create a container that is activating but safe enough to begin this work.”
